# Local Plant Competitors — Brooklyn / NYC

**Project:** shopify-plant-store · **Date:** 2026-10-03 · **Scope:** LOCAL Brooklyn/NYC only
**Source of truth:** `research/competitor-data.json` (this MD is the readable view of it)

## Our positioning (V's input, 2026-10-03)

Owner's selling points — the lane we defend:
1. **Widest Dracaena assortment in stock** — currently marginata 4ft/6ft + dragon tree 6ft + pairs on site, but **no dedicated Dracaena collection page yet** → flagship collection = the obvious build (matches the 68-key dracaena commercial core).
2. **Lowest prices** — must be proven against the field: Natty Garden sells Dracaena 4" at **$9.99**; The Sill anchors category pricing. Audit competitor PDP prices before advertising "lowest".
3. **Same-day delivery** — PlantShed already does same-day citywide; Ed's does scheduled 5-borough. Our angle: **same-day on Dracaena**, bundled with widest assortment + lowest price — the combination, not same-day alone.

---

## TL;DR

1. **Delivery-first players eat the NYC map-pack:** Ed's Plant Shop (scheduled delivery to all 5 boroughs + neighborhood hub pages) and PlantShed (same-day hand delivery) define the delivery UX bar. Tula House owns the Greenpoint rare/design niche with delivery to BK/MN/QN.
2. **The Sill dominates the national head terms and holds two Brooklyn stores** (Williamsburg + Cobble Hill) — SERP-context, not a local target, but sets the "organized by light/care level" standard.
3. **Garden centers (Natty Garden, Brooklyn Horticulture, Botanica, Planted IN, Dragonetti) compete on ratings & breadth, not SEO** — their sites are weak (Squarespace/legacy). Most vulnerable on *online + delivery*.
4. **Big gap: "large indoor plants, delivered, guaranteed" with a modern storefront.** Our store (plantsforsaleinnyc.com: palms/ficuses/monsteras, sized 1-3/3-5/5-7/XXL 7ft, delivery+guarantee) sits exactly between Dahing Plants (very large plants, Manhattan, weak web) and Ed's (rare, modern web) — a winnable lane.
5. **Greenery Unlimited (Greenpoint, the biophilic store) CLOSED in May 2024** — its SERP footprint is up for grabs; the physical corner is NOT (taken by Lucky Honey fitness, Aug 2024).
6. **Common weaknesses of the 20 local profiles:** no local-business schema depth, no delivery landing pages per neighborhood (except Ed's), thin PDP copy, no care-guide content engines, Squarespace/legacy platforms.
